I definitely don’t have a crystal ball…yet…

Wednesday, October 21st, 2009

So back in January, I made some “predictions” about the year to come in 1/6 scale toys. I’ve been disappointed more didn’t come true, but am glad that I wasn’t entirely accurate about diminished offerings in 1/6. If anything, there seems to be more variety now than there was last year (though I *DO* think, there are LESS products being released overall).

HOWEVER… (drum roll) I was actually right about something, because I believed in Hot Toys ability to deliver what they said they were going to deliver…and soon, they will! I had thought after they released the Machiko Predator figure we might see some True Type female bodies carded. It made even more sense after they announced the ERT figure. My original prediction:

2) Carded Hot Toys female body – I posted a question that was answered by Hot Toys in December 2008:

IOT: Are there plans to release a carded version of the female body similar to the True Type 38 nudes?
HT: Oh yes, we know many fans are expecting it on forums, please stay tuned in 2009.

It appears they will be out before the end of 2009.

As for the rest of my predictions…well, the year isn’t over just yet. :)

Triad Otaku 1.0 Caucasian v2

Thursday, January 15th, 2009

Overview:

The Triad Otaku body is quite a bit different than a lot of other 1/6 scale bodies out there. From materials to articulation the body is a departure from what we’re used to. Does it pay off? Sort of. It has some issues that really need to be addressed still, but overall it’s a cool body if you can work around some of its faults.

Saturday Toys – S1 Body

Friday, August 1st, 2008

I recently picked up a Saturday Toys S1 body loose and I must say, it’s an excellent base body for customs. My first impression is that this body is just as good as the Hot Toys TrueType 38 bodies. The bonus? You can buy them loose MUCH cheaper than the HT body.

The range of motion is nearly identical on the bodies. Joint tension seems about the same as well. The HT body has slightly smoother lines and a little cleaner molding around the edges, but I have to say this S1 is awesome. I’ll be picking up a few more of these.

EDIT 2009-09-14: Some people have asked about size comparisons so I snapped a quick picture of the S1 next to a HT TT body. The S1 is on the right. The HT TT is the pale version from a few years back.
