FCC to require bloggers to specify “freebies”

Monday, October 5th, 2009

The FCC will require all bloggers to specify if they’ve received free products or other remuneration for “reviews” of products or services done online.

I think this is a great idea. People who receive free products and then give glowing reviews just because they got the product for free or at a discounted price should be seen for what they really are: SHILLS. There are a lot of “review” places on line for products, and quite a few for toys in particular. I’ve always suspected a few of them at least in part based their praise on kickbacks they’d earn from referral sales, based on products they receive for free or at a discount, or based it on other incentives offered to them by a certain company.

There will be fines levied (up to $11,000 per instance) against people who don’t disclose this information now and I think it’s long overdue. It’s part of protecting consumers from deceptive marketing and I welcome it.

As I’ve said before – if you see a review written by me, it’s because I bought the product and gave it an honest informed inspection. I don’t sugar coat things and I don’t harshly criticize products for no reason. I’m no fan boy, but I’m not out to tear apart everything that comes across my desk…

Sideshow “The Dead” – Subject 2221

Thursday, February 12th, 2009

Sideshow’s “The Dead” line has been going for a few years now. This is currently their 9th figure (not counting variants) in the series. I was really looking forward to this figure based on the prototype photos and the fact that this is the first figure in this line to use Sideshow’s new Prometheus body. I will say, overall it’s a bit underwhelming… check out some pictures and read on for more info. Sorry for the poor pics…my photo setup is still not up. I’ll get it squared away in the near future hopefully…

1/6 Best and Worst of 2008

Wednesday, January 28th, 2009

The world of 1/6 has been booming over the last several years (although is probably heading for a decline at any time now). We’ve seen some amazing figures, accessories, and even vehicles released over the past couple of years. 2008 has been no exception. There were so many excellent things released in 2008 that one would need to be a millionaire to possibly keep up with them all.

What follows is IOT’s best and worst of 2008 list. Enjoy!

Triad Otaku 1.0 Caucasian v2

Thursday, January 15th, 2009

Overview:

The Triad Otaku body is quite a bit different than a lot of other 1/6 scale bodies out there. From materials to articulation the body is a departure from what we’re used to. Does it pay off? Sort of. It has some issues that really need to be addressed still, but overall it’s a cool body if you can work around some of its faults.

Please note: The photos in this review are stock photos from TriadToys.com On to the review!

Worst action figure maker?

Wednesday, September 10th, 2008

If you had a choice to nominate the worst action figure company out there, who would it be? There’s some really great stuff currently being produced in larger scales (12″ and 18″) as well as in the smaller scales (4″ and 6″). One of the standouts is the new Mezco 18″ Hellboy 2 figure. He’s awesome whether or not you’re even into that scale. The level of detail is great.
