Toy Fact:

The first black GI Joe was released in 1965.

Old users…new site

For those who were registered on the old site, I’ll be transferring users over to the new site throughout this week. If you get an email that you were registered here, it’s me transferring your info. :)

All users won’t be transferred over, but anyone who has accessed the site in the last year will be. They should be all finished by Saturday at the very latest.

New site…sort of

So things are still moving along here. The site is new (and hideously colored…sorry…still testing some things). It should work much better than the old site. The familiar things are here. Blog posts, forums, action figures, etc.

Not much news right now. Will post again when it’s “done”.

Sideshow “The Dead” – Subject 2221

Sideshow’s “The Dead” line has been going for a few years now. This is currently their 9th figure (not counting variants) in the series. I was really looking forward to this figure based on the prototype photos and the fact that this is the first figure in this line to use Sideshow’s new Prometheus body. I will say, overall it’s a bit underwhelming… check out some pictures and read on for more info. Sorry for the poor pics…my photo setup is still not up. I’ll get it squared away in the near future hopefully…

1/6 Best and Worst of 2008

The world of 1/6 has been booming over the last several years (although is probably heading for a decline at any time now). We’ve seen some amazing figures, accessories, and even vehicles released over the past couple of years. 2008 has been no exception. There were so many excellent things released in 2008 that one would need to be a millionaire to possibly keep up with them all.

What follows is IOT’s best and worst of 2008 list. Enjoy!

Valentine’s Day Bargain Figure Challenge (Contest)

This is a contest I posted over at the Men With Dolls forum. Feel free to hop on over there and read the directions and enter the contest! It’s open to all!

THE CONTEST!

Triad Otaku Caucasian v1.2

Overview:

The Triad Otaku body is quite a bit different than a lot of other 1/6 scale bodies out there. From materials to articulation the body is a departure from what we’re used to. Does it pay off? Sort of. It has some issues that really need to be addressed still, but overall it’s a cool body if you can work around some of its faults.

Please note: The photos in this review are stock photos from TriadToys.com On to the review!

Worst action figure maker?

If you had a choice to nominate the worst action figure company out there, who would it be? There’s some really great stuff currently being produced in larger scales (12″ and 18″) as well as in the smaller scales (4″ and 6″). One of the standouts is the new Mezco 18″ Hellboy 2 figure. He’s awesome whether or not you’re even into that scale. The level of detail is great.

GURPS GURPS GURPS

Sounds like some sort of frog noise right? “Guuurrrrrp” Anyway, for those who don’t know, it stands for Generic Universal Role Playing System. It was created by Steve Jackson (of Steve Jackson Games fame) in 1986. GURPS won the Origins Award for Best Roleplaying Rules of 1988, and in 2000 it was inducted into the Origins Hall of Fame.

Saturday Toys – S1 Body

I recently picked up a Saturday Toys S1 body loose and I must say, it’s an excellent base body for customs. My first impression is that this body is just as good as the Hot Toys TrueType 38 bodies. The bonus? You can buy them loose MUCH cheaper than the HT body.

The range of motion is nearly identical on the bodies. Joint tension seems about the same as well. The HT body has slightly smoother lines and a little cleaner molding around the edges, but I have to say this S1 is awesome. I’ll be picking up a few more of these.

Hasbro – Sigma 6 – Zartan

Sigma 6 Zartan

In my last review of a Sigma 6 figure, I covered one of the good guys on the GI Joe team, Lt. Stone. Well you can’t have good guys without bad guys right? They’d be terribly bored, don’t you think?

Sea Searcher II and lil IOT X-mas 1979

IOT in 1979. I loved that Darth Vader shirt so much I wore it til it didn’t fit any more…and probably after that! The iron-on transfer is peeling and Darth had seen better days, but I didn’t care. Darth Vader was awesome!

This is one of my favorite toys EVER. That underwater play set gave me many years of joy. The boat lasted a good 8-10 years and I think it only went on its way after being stepped on while moving things around in my room many years later. It’s nothing spectacular by today’s standards and it’s probably a knock-off of Matchbox Mobile Action Command or Action Jacks…but I don’t care.

Hasbro – Sigma 6 – Lt. Stone

Most would consider Sigma 6 a spin-off of the GI Joe “Real American Hero” line. Many characters appear in both incarnations of the GI Joe team. The histories and stories of each group however are separate. There are some similarities, but it doesn’t appear to be a connection to the previous series so much as a rewrite of the previous history. Sigma 6 in toy form also varies greatly from the RAH line in the fact that the figures are 8 inches tall instead of slightly less than 4.

Rosler – Sixthscale Volume 1

I received the first issue of SIXTHSCALE Magazine today. Out of respect for Terry Rosler I won’t be taking any photographs of it, but I will use preview pictures that he previously posted of the magazine. Sorry for deviating from my usual routine, but I have no intention of giving away his hard work and the work of his contributors.

So let’s get to it shall we?

“Professional” toy grading and why it STINKS

I have no love for the so called professional toy graders. I watched for years as baseball cards and then comic books steadily grew in “value” because of some stupid book telling people how much they were worth. Once it got to the point that new comics STILL ON THE SALES RACK were being priced above what the actual cover price was, I quit collecting comics. That wasn’t the only reason (I’m looking at you Marvel…yes you with all the stupid crossover nonsense), but the price of comics was definitely a big part of it.
